Much of the other side’s case will be based on trying to show that the decedent’s life was not worth all that much. This is a harsh aspect of our legal system. Your lawyer will be showing that the deceased person was a human being who lived a full life, loved and was loved in return, contributed to society, helped out friends, and had a life that was very valuable, and that the person’s death is a great loss.
The other side will be trying to prove the opposite, and they will use every tool at their disposal to do so. It is not pleasant, and there is no way to sugarcoat this reality. The other side will be looking for reasons why the life was “less valuable.” But rest assured, your lawyer will be with you through the process – nobody’s life is perfect, and juries understand this.
