Motorcycle-Truck Crash Seriously Injures Alaska Man

Date: October 6, 2009
Location: S Partlow Road & S Central Point Road, Oregon City, Oregon
Names: Michael Lawrence

Michael Lawrence, 38, of Anchor Point, Alaska, was seriously injured October 6, 2009, when his motorcycle hit a truck in Oregon City, Oregon, according to The Oregonian. The collision occurred around 9 PM as Lawrence rode east on S Partlow Road; the truck, carrying three occupants, was southbound on S Central Point Road.

Lawrence was wearing a helmet, but sustained serious head injuries in the crash. Rescuers transported Lawrence to John McLoughlin Elementary School, where a Life Flight helicopter could land. From there, Lawrence was airlifted to Legacy Emanuel Medical Center in Portland. As of October 7, he was listed in critical condition.

None of the truck’s occupants was hurt in the crash, and Oregon City Police personnel were continuing to investigate.

Our hearts go out to Lawrence and his family during this difficult time, and we wish for him a fast and full recovery. Anytime a motorcycle accident occurs, we are reminded of the high injury and death rates for motorcycle riders. Several factors contribute to the potential risk, but probably none more so than motorists’ seeming inability to see motorcycles. Certainly rider skill can come into play, and we absolutely welcome the Oregon law requiring motorcycle skills training. However, no matter how safely a person rides, a car driver who isn’t looking will remain a danger to a motorcyclist.

Several factors could have contributed to this accident. Poor road conditions, faulty mechanics. That’s why, when someone is seriously injured, a competent Oregon personal injury attorney can investigate and find out what truly happened. Usually at no cost.  For more information on what to do in the case of an Oregon accident, contact our office or read 7 Common Mistakes That Can Wreck Your Oregon Accident Case.
